Newish Camera

A few weeks ago I got an Olympus E-PL3 camera for digital use. As far as future plans with it goes I need to get a better flash than the one that comes with it and I really want a good wide angle prime lens.

I love wide primes on my film cameras especially the Voigtlander 21/4. Maybe I should go with an M adapter for it too. How bad is it to manually focus?

Here is one of my first shots with the camera:

Been a while

I haven’t posted too much on here since trying out Google+. There just isn’t too much activity on there though. I still have my Facebook account but ugh.

The biggest thing happening for me lately was purchasing an HTC Thunderbolt and an Asus Eee Pad Transformer. I managed to root and load ROMs on them both within the first week of ownership and now I’m quite happy with them both.

The Transformer has pretty much replaced my laptop for my basic browsing and usage needs. I need to see if the Tumblr app works on Honeycomb.

New Stuff

Looks like a nice Thunderstorm is on its way here in a bit. I’ve always been a fan of thunder at night as long as the power doesn’t go out.

As for the new stuff:
I got my new modem hooked up today. It is a Motorola SB6120 DOCSIS 3.0 modem. I am very happy with the speed boost from the new DOCSIS protocol since my old modem was a 2.0 one. Apparently the tech isn’t supposed to hook up the new style because you basically get the connection speed that they sell for a little more for free. I was getting around 25-30Mbps on my old modem and now I’m getting 40-45Mbit.

The other shiny new toy is a Dell Ultrasharp 2311H monitor to replace my aging Samsung 205SW monitor. Great picture quality compared to the old monitor. I find the boost in resolution and size to be very nice too. Plus I now have displayport the whole way through instead of having to use a mini-displayport to DVI adaptor on my Mac mini. I’m sure that helps picture quality a bit.

GTMO

We finished up all the work we needed to do down here yesterday. Unfortunately I can’t fly out until Tuesday at 8am. GTMO is pretty dull mostly because of the lack of internet in the hotel we are staying at. So here I am sitting in the coffee/ice cream shoppe drinking a milkshake and trying to use the ridiculously slow internet connection here.

Bringing the Cr-48 Chromebook wasn’t that great of an idea. I was kind of banking on having a steady internet connection since it is useless without one. Luckily I brought my iPad and Kindle too. The Kindle is especially great.

I’m ready to go home though. I miss Lizzie and actually having stuff to do.

Gitmo

I found out a little while that I’ll be going to Gtmo with a couple of guys to do some work in a couple of weeks. I’m kind of looking forward to it. It’ll be a nice break from the usual routine of work. I don’t know how I’ll manage without Lizzie for a few days. Luckily one of the guys from work will help out and take care of her while I’m gone.

Lizzie has been lazy this weekend. We’ve been walking a bit and the heat isn’t too easy one her. The vet said that the smallest dogs and the biggest dogs have the hardest time with heat.

The trip to Gtmo will be the first road test for my X120e. We’ll see how much I like it there.

Sunday

So this week I got an iPhone 4 to replace my Droid Incredible. So far so good. I like the size and weight of the iPhone even though it is a little bit heavier than the Inc. The screen is gorgeous and love all the apps since I can use most of my iPad apps on it.

I’ve been trying to keep up on my Chrome CR-48 but it is losing out to the X120e simply because the Lenovo is much faster at browsing and the trackpad is a little better. I’d still like to put Ubuntu on it sometime but we’ll see.

Lizzie went to the vet on Friday to get tested for heartworms and a booster shot. She is up to 6 pounds now and I think she might be done growing. She needs to get her puppy canines pulled at some point. I guess retention of those teeth is a common problem with the Yorkies.

Retired the EeePC

Today I finally retired my EeePC 701 as my irssi server. With the purchase of my Lenovo I had the Acer Aspire sitting around collecting dust I loaded Xubuntu on it and it is now serving as my irssi and ssh computer. I’m not sure how much it’ll help but the Aspire has gigabit ethernet, a 1.2GHz dual core Celeron, 4GB of RAM, and a 64GB SSD. That is actually a pretty big jump up from the 701.

Since it is a little more capable than the EeePC I also made it my Minecraft server. We’ll see how it goes but I think it’ll work better with the load off of my desktop.

Found a picture of Lizzie from right after I got her. She has grown up a lot since then.

Update

I’ve had the X120 for a couple weeks now and I’m enjoying it quite a bit. After finally getting the SSD installed and working I haven’t had any major issues with it. Firefox 4 on it is very nice and the hardware acceleration works perfectly. It is good for Kindle for PC too.

One minor issue with it I’ve noticed graphics glitches on it if I leave the laptop on sitting on my couch for a while but I’m guessing that might be heat related. It seemed to happen most with Chrome running.

Minecraft is pretty good on it but I had to scale back the graphics settings to prevent stuttering. I’m guessing it is mostly CPU bound on here.
